Namo Avant Thai, is a beautiful Thai restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is located right by the water and you can enjoy the awesome Hong Kong  skyline while you eat. I would like to think that the ‘avant’ in their name stands for Avant Garde, as this eatery has a nice mix of European, Indian and obviously Thai flavors.
They have many dishes with ‘paneer’, a separate vegetarian menu (yay!), and they even offer Jain options! The restaurant has slick modern wooden furniture and a nice casual dining vibe. It is located in the Empire Center mall and welcomes happy shoppers as well. I went to Namo for dinner and we sat outside, the temperature was perfect, the view spectacular and food delicious.Â
The menu is very smartly divided into ‘Relish, Crunch and Sip’ giving the eaters a new way to think about what they want to order. We ordered all the vegetarian appetizers and they were all amazing! The ‘Crispy Baby Baby’ (baby corn fritters) was a particular favorite, we ordered 2 portions of it. Crispy and delicious the fritters were cooked to perfection. Light and flavorful, they came with a coconut dipping sauce, that was like a creamy coconut curry. The crunchy fritters soaked up the sauce and tasted amazing! For mains, we ordered Yellow Thai Curry with Eggplant, Garlic Fried Rice and Green Thai Curry. The Eggplant curry was my favorite! Charred eggplants floating in a creamy, tangy coconut curry, like a sweeter version of a Penang Curry. Even for the non-eggplant lovers, this is a must have, my brother is one of you and he really enjoyed it. The curry and the rice went together like yin and yang, the spices of the rice were beautifully offset by the coconut in the curry. A great drink to go with the meal is the Namo-tini. A potent infusion of kaffir lime, malibu, galangal and lemon grass, this drink smells like a spa and leaves you feeling like you went to one! Truly setting new trends, this is a must visit on your next trip to Hk.
