If you are travelling around Croatia, you will see the difference between mainland life and island life. Brac is one of the largest islands in Croatia and probably the most populated. The people here are just a lot calmer, more relaxed and they know how to have a good time.
Palute is a family run restaurant that is an institution on the Supetar harbor. Every one knows Palute! Named after the husband, wife and deceased daughter, this restaurant is open around the year. You can enjoy stunning views of the Adriatic and in the evenings, the twinkling city of Split.
The food here has no surprises, you get what you order and thats  that. This isn’t one of those fancy institutions where you will be served a culinary masterpiece, you will get well cooked simple foods that are simply delicious. While the menu is not extensive, you will definitely find a pasta, risotto, soup or salad of your liking.
We had a vegetable soup, Spaghetti Napoletana and Mushroom Risotto, each was perfectly cooked and delicious. The cherry on the cake was the dessert – Chocolate Cake Carob. A scrumptious local cake of chocolate and almonds, served with whipped cream.
While I had dinner at Palute, we had a jolly band of local men singing local songs, our waiter was one of them. They asked us to join them while we were eating. Our waiter insisted that we don’t pay the bill right away, but sit for a while and enjoy the Brac atmosphere. And that is what life on a Croatian island is all about.
